Yoga As An Exercise Routine At Home

You may be at the beginning of your transition from the regular gym (where there are already racks of dumb-bells and weight-lifting equipment) to your home gym (where you just have your floor and a TV). And you may be wondering what will happen to your wallet and why you left the real gym in the first place.

But, one thing to note is that you may actually not need any equipment to work out with at home.

Now, I may be speaking to only the ladies as I know there are a lot of you men out there that are determined to build muscle and add bulk and mass to your physique.

Is it only our Western culture that places a much higher emphasis on physical fitness and the appearance that it gives than on how it affects us internally? Is it just us that cares a lot more on how to tear up those muscle fibers so that we’ll have a smoking hot body?

I don’t know about you, but this just seems really backwards to me. There’s so much going on inside our bodies that it would benefit for us to focus on that first, then outwards.

If all we are doing is tearing ourselves up so that we appear to be strong and healthy, what happens to everything else on the inside that allows us to breathe and function properly? There should be a way to achieve both halves of our bodily equation in one swoop. After all, we only have one body.

It is all the more reason why I highly recommend that you try doing yoga at home in your personal gym. There are no dumb-bells to buy/use, no running shoes, nothing. Just bring yourself onto your yoga mat and be ready to go.

What I really like about yoga is that I am forced to concentrate on my breathing (to make sure enough air is leaving and entering my lungs) as it makes a huge difference when I am stretching out my body into a simple pose that is somehow so difficult to hold. Every pose seems so simple, but it requires such strength in various parts of the body that I did not know existed.

I love the fact that I have a lot of natural light from my front yard window, because I feel the sun shining into my yoga space. But, it doesn’t matter how much space there even is in the apartment, because what does matter is that there is ample room to hold my yoga mat. I could live in a tiny dorm, a shoebox in New York, and get the sweatiest work out without taking one step off of the mat.

It really will draw your attention to every part of your body that usually gets neglected when you are doing a set of machine weight lifts. So much sweat comes out of your pores, carrying out toxins from within out to the surface, and you didn’t even have to run or do a sprint.
